High waves split fishing boat in two off Paradip coast; 5 fishermen rescued

Paradip: Five fishermen had a narrow escape after their fishing boat was battered by high waves and split into two near the Mahanadi river mouth at Nehru Bungalow in Paradip on Tuesday.

According to reports, the fishermen had ventured into the sea from the Mahanadi River mouth in a boat to catch fish. While returning, they encountered high waves near the river mouth. The waves repeatedly crashed against the boat, causing severe damage to the vessel.

The impact of the rough sea conditions eventually left the boat split into two, putting the lives of the five fishermen at risk. However, a timely rescue operation helped avert a possible tragedy.

High Waves Damage Boat Near River Mouth

The incident occurred as the fishermen returned to shore after finishing their fishing. As their boat approached the mouth of the Mahanadi River near Nehru Bungalow, high waves began pounding the vessel.

The force of the waves severely damaged the boat, which eventually broke into two pieces. The incident highlights the risks faced by fishermen while navigating rough waters, particularly near river mouths where waves can pose a serious challenge to small fishing vessels.

Five Fishermen Rescued, All Safe

The five fishermen were rescued with the help of another fishing boat that was also returning from the sea. The occupants of the other vessel came to their aid, ensuring that all five fishermen were brought to safety.

All five fishermen are reported to be safe, and no injuries were reported in the incident. However, the damaged boat was left split into two, resulting in significant damage to the vessel.
