Bhubaneswar, Mar 16: It may sound funny, but Bhubaneswar is witnessing helmet theft, after the introduction of the helmet rule. Interestingly, this kind of petty theft is now rampant near malls and shopping complexes and park which see hundreds of two-wheelers every day.
According to a report of Odia daily, Prameya, as many as 200 helmets are being stolen from busy areas of the city, which see hundreds of bike every day. Parks are one of most soft targets of the miscreants, from where they can easily run away with helmets, kept on motorbikes.
On the other hand, the miscreants are selling these stolen helmets a cost of Rs 200 each. Mostly, the love birds are seen buying these stolen helmets at a cheaper price.
The stolen helmets are being sold at Vani Vihar, Rajmahal, Saheednagar, Baramunda and Chandrasekharpur areas, said the report. Interestingly, the persons, whose helmet has been stolen away, buy these helmets in order to avoid penalty. Meanwhile, some city residents have alleged that the police are not registering case over such theft.
