Bhubaneswar, Dec 5: The State Transport Department (STA) today warned motorcycle riders to strictly adhere to the new helmet rules under the amended Motor Vehicles Act which makes the protective gear mandatory for the pillion riders as well. A pillion rider without a helmet will attract the punishment, including suspension of driving license.
“Driving licence will be suspended if both the driver and the pillion rider do not wear helmets while riding motorcycles,” STA said in a tweet.
In a joint checking with Olatpur Police, on 4th Dec, 92 MC riders penalised for not wearing of helmet. 42 DLs suspended and Rs1,34,000/- penalty imposed.
