Bhubaneswar: After the Khurda Collector made use of helmets for bikers on the busy Khandagiri-Rasulgarh section of the National Highway-16 (flyover) mandatory, police today intensified helmet checking drive on the busy stretch.
Similarly, the Odisha Motor Vehicle Department (OMVD) personnel also swung into action and started a drive to check the movement of vehicles of moving at the high speed at Baramunda flyover.
Nearly 35 people were killed in last 30 days along the Khandagiri-Rasulgarh in road mishaps.
As per the official decision, bikers will now have to wear helmets during movement on the busy section of the NH failing which they will be liable for action as per the law.
Earlier, Commissionerate police had identified five black spots – Batabhuasuni temple near Janla, Aiginia, road near Siddharth Hotel, Acharya Vihar overbridge and Pahal – on the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack NH and put up barricades at these places to reduce speed of vehicles.
