Heavy rain, thunderstorm disrupts normal life in Delhi, air traffic affected

23/05/2022 at 10:25 AM

Delhi, May 23: In a tremendous relief to locals from the scorching heat, several parts of the national capital Delhi and its adjoining areas received heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms in the wee hours of Monday.

The bad weather affected vehicular traffic movement in some areas as several trees were uprooted under the impact of strong winds and due to waterlogging.

The surface temperature across the NCR witnessed a drastic fall due to rain which gave a respite from the scorching heat. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the temperature fell by 11 degrees Celsius, from 29 degrees Celsius to 18 degrees Celsius between 5:40 am to 7 am today.

Meanwhile, power blackouts were also reported from parts of the city.

The downpour also affected flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport prompting the officials to request the passengers to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information.

Several airline companies tweeted that the bad weather in Delhi may affect departures and arrivals at the airport as they requested their passengers to keep a check on their flight status and to keep sufficient time in hand to report for flights.
