
Bhubaneswar, Oct 9: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall across coastal Odisha on Thursday, with Balasore, Bhadrak, and Kendrapara expected to witness the most intense showers. Thunderstorms accompanied by rain are also likely in other coastal areas.
Between October 9 and 11, scattered heavy rainfall is expected across various districts of the state, including Jajpur, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri, the IMD said in its latest forecast.
A cyclonic circulation is also expected to form over the north Bay of Bengal on October 10, which may further intensify the rain activity. Under its influence, heavy rainfall is likely in Ganjam and Gajapati districts on Friday. Interior and southern Odisha may also experience moderate to heavy showers.
On October 11, thunderstorms with rainfall are likely in isolated parts of southern and northern Odisha. Rain is also expected in districts like Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, and Nuapada.
Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar recorded the highest rainfall on Wednesday, with 40.9 mm of precipitation. The city, along with several parts of coastal Odisha, witnessed intense thunderstorms and rainfall from midday to afternoon.
The IMD has advised citizens and local authorities to remain alert and take necessary precautions during this period of potential severe weather.
