Nabarangpur, April 18: In view of the intense heatwave sweeping across the district, the administration has ordered the closure of all Anganwadi centres, government and private schools, colleges, and technical institutions from April 20, 2026, until further notice.
Officials said the decision was taken to safeguard students from extreme weather conditions as temperatures continue to soar. However, scheduled examinations will be conducted as planned. Authorities have advised that exams may be rescheduled to morning hours to avoid peak heat.
Institution heads have been directed to ensure adequate arrangements, including the availability of safe drinking water and necessary measures to tackle heat-related illnesses during examination hours.
Earlier closures in Boudh and Bolangir
Prior to Nabarangpur, similar steps had been taken in Boudh and Bolangir districts, where the district administrations ordered the closure of schools due to rising temperatures and heatwave conditions.
In both districts, authorities emphasized student safety amid the harsh summer and directed educational institutions to remain shut until weather conditions improve. Like Nabarangpur, examinations were allowed to continue with precautionary measures, including conducting them during cooler morning hours and ensuring proper hydration facilities for students.
