Bhubaneswar: When under the influence of a trough line that passes over Odisha is bringing some rainfall over State, and has calmed down the rising mercury by a bit, the hot revelation is the State will see the return of hotter days with a bang from March 1.
As per the model predictions of IMD, ECMWF and NCMRWF, Odisha will unlikely to witness maximum daytime temperature of over 32-34 deg C till Feb 28.
The weather parameters will change fast from March 1 and the day time maximum temperature is likely to rise by 4 deg C vis-a-vis the average normal temperature in March
The model predictions of IMD, ECMWF and NCMRWF show the mercury in Odisha touching 40-42 deg C by March 5.
MERCURY'S 42 DEG C MARCH IN ODISHA
A glance at the weather predictions by model forecasts shows formation of an anticyclone zone over east-central Bay of Bengal on around March 2/3. In association with the system, a ridge line at the lower level of atmosphere will pass over Chhattisgarh and extending upto Gangetic West Bengal, Bangladesh and beyond.
Under the influence of the said weather developments, Odisha and most places in south India, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh will witness a rise in day time temperature considerably.
MERCURY TRAVAILS IN ODISHA
As per the model forecast of reputed weathers agencies like IMD, NCMRWF the following places/regions in Odisha will record day time temperature of around 40/42 deg C on the following days.
- March 1: Day time temperature in western Odisha except Sundargarh, Jharsuguda will touch around 36-38 degC
- March 2: Day time temperature will touch around 36 in the whole of Odisha, including Capital Bhubaneswar and Cuttack
- March 3 – Day time mercury will surge up to touch 40 deg C at many places in western Odisha, especially Balangir and Kalahandi.
- March 5: Day time mercury will rise up to touch around 42 deg C at many places in western Odisha like Balangir, Kalahandi and adjoining areas.
ECMWF FORECAST
The European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecast predictions see the states like Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, parts of Madhya Pradesh will record maximum day time temperature of 40/42 deg C from March 2 to March 5.
As per ECMWF forecast, (as seen in the image), Odisha coastal areas will also witness day time maximum temperature of 40 deg C from March 2 onwards.
