Cuttack, Sept 17: Orissa High Court rejected the plea filed by Cuttack’s Balubazar Puja committee seeking relaxation in restrictions imposed on the height of Durga idol.
“The government has decided on the height of the idol after reviewing the current pandemic situation in the state. The court can’t grant permission to increase the height of the idol to a single Puja committee”, said the High Court while hearing the case.
Reacting upon the decision made by the High court, Balubazar Puja Committee said, “We might go to the Supreme Court against the decision made by the High Court. The concrete decision will be made after we get the order copy.”
Notably, The state government has imposed a restriction regarding the maxium height of the Durga Idols to 4 feet, citing the reasons to avoid the possible third wave of Covid-19 pandemic.
Opposing the state government’s decision, Ramesh Chandra Behera, the secretary of Balubazar Puja Committee, filed a petition seeking permission to raise the height of the Durga idol.
