Today is August 21 and the day is observed as World Senior Citizen Day. The day draws attention to the problems that parents face in their daily lives and thanks them for their services and contributions to the betterment of society. World Senior Citizen Day was officially launched in 1988 by former US President Ronald Reagan. Reagan signed Proclamation 5847 on August 19, 1988, which was declared National Day of the Third Age on August 21. It was first observed in 1991. Retirees are an important part of any society. However, many of them are very difficult to survive in the modern world, given the rapid development of technology and the changing social and economic environment. On this occasion, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik also tweeted, “For our society to be truly inclusive, we should celebrate old age and their wisdom. On #WorldSeniorCitizensDay, let's honour each and every citizen around us and ensure that our elders get all the love, affection, and empathy.” wp:embed {"url":"https://twitter.com/Naveen_Odisha/status/1428924433696133126","type":"rich","providerNameSlug":"twitter","responsive":true} https://twitter.com/Naveen_Odisha/status/1428924433696133126 /wp:embed
