Gujarat: Air India flight with 242 passengers on board crashes in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, June 12: An Air India flight bound for London crashed in Gujarat's Meghani area shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad airport on Thursday.

As per reports, the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner had 230 passengers and 12 crew members on board. It crashed around five minutes after take-off in a crowded area near Ahmedabad airport.

Right after the crash, local people rushed to help with rescue work.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has reportedly rushed to Ahmedabad to check the situation.

Gujarat Minister of State (MoS) for Home Harsh Sanghavi took to his official ‘X’ handle and said, CM Patel has swiftly taken charge and instructed hospitals to be on high alert with all ambulances, including 108, ready to respond.

Senior officials have been deployed to hospitals and the airport to ensure prompt action and save lives, said Sanghavi adding that NDRF and SDRF teams have been rushed to the incident site.

He further added that the PMO is closely monitoring the situation, receiving point-by-point updates & guiding further and the administration is working tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of all affected.

Home Minister Amit Shah also is in touch, inquiring about the situation and guiding further actions, he said.

The central government has promised to give all possible help.
