Koraput, Feb 16: The Koraput Police on Monday arrested five persons including the grandmother for allegedly stealing a newborn girl from her father at Saheed Laxman Naik Medical College and Hospital (SLNMCH), and rescued the baby from Kundra block in Koraput district.
The have been identified as Gongai Gouda, Basanti Gouda, Tuna Harijan, Hemant Mohuria and Ranjita Mohuria.
According to reports, Tulsina Gouda of Silkaguda village under Papadahandi block in Nabrangpur had given birth to a girl child in her residence.
Tulsina fell ill after delivery for which she was admitted to Sahid Laxman Nayak Medical College & Hospital, Koraput in a critical condition.
However, she died while undergoing treatment. At the same time, the newborn girl was under medical care in Special Neonatal Care Unit(SNCU) of the hospital.
When Tulsina’s sister returned to the hospital after completing her crematory to take their baby, she did not find the baby in the SNCU.
On the other hand, the SNCU authorities said that a family member of Tulsina had taken the baby from the SNCU.
