Bhubaneswar, July 1: Amid the raging controversy over large-scale errors in the newly introduced textbooks for Classes I to VIII, the State Government on Wednesday clarified that it would provide new books as soon as possible following thorough revision and deliberations.

“Now, students will pursue study through revised copies of textbooks. Consultations will be made with experts and resource persons for preparation of error-free books. Following thorough revision and deliberations, new books will be provided to students. The State Government is trying to provide the new books as soon as possible,” said School and Mass Education Secretary N. Thirumala Naik.

He said that experts, senior officials from different departments along with the old committee will carry out the revision drive.

For the context, several newly-introduced textbooks for the 2026-27 academic session were found to contain hundreds of factual, grammatical and printing errors. The controversy prompted the State Government to order an inquiry and fix accountability for the lapses.

Meanwhile, based on the reports the high-level committed formed by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, four officials including former Director of Teachers Training and State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) and three Assistant Directors have been suspended.

The State Government has also decided to implement all 14 recommendations of the committee headed by Development Commissioner DK Singh aimed at strengthening textbook preparation, review and publication mechanisms and preventing recurrence of such errors.
