Bhubaneswar, May 19: BJD president and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday launched a blistering attack on the BJP Government in Odisha alleging that State is witnessing a complete collapse of law and order, describing the brutal attack on a young man and woman in Berhmapur as "Goonda Raj" rather than governance.
Reacting to the brutal assault, Patnaik said the shocking incident has left people across Odisha fearful and disturbed.
"This is not BJP's rule in Odisha… this is pure Goonda Raj. The entire State is terrified and deeply disturbed," said Patnaik on ‘X’.
Accusing the BJP Government of allowing criminals and anti-social elements to indulging in atrocities without fear, the former Chief Minister said that Odisha's image is being tarnished across the country because of the deteriorating law-and-order situation.
"The BJP Government has virtually handed over Odisha to criminals. Anti-social elements are committing atrocities openly and fearlessly. Where has the police administration and the rule of law disappeared,?" questioned Patnaik.
“Governance cannot survive on false publicity. People deserve to lead a peaceful and dignified life,” said Patnaik.
He also criticised the ruling establishment for allegedly focusing on events, celebrations and political optics instead of ensuring public security.
He demanded that the Government launch immediate crackdown on criminals and anti-social elements be launched to ensure safety and security for the ordinary people.
He also demanded strict and swift action against all those involved in the Brahmapur assault.
The strong reaction of the BJD supremo comes amid widespread outrage over the incident, which has triggered renewed concerns over public security in the State.
