Koraput, May 4: In a major crackdown, the Koraput police seized ganja worth over Rs 1 crore from a jackfruit-laden truck near Tikapur and arrested three persons in this connection today.
The accused have been identified as V Satya, G Sriman Narayan and G Sridhar of Guntur area of Andhra Pradesh.
Acting on a tip off, a joint team of Machakunda, Lamptaput and Jalaput police conducted intercepted the jackfruit-laden truck and have seized 34 sacks of ganja.
The accused persons were transporting the ganja, sourced from Jalaput locality to Guntur of Andhra Pradesh. The seized item, weighing one ton is valued at around Rs 1 crore, said a police officer.
Nandapur SDPO Sanjay Mahapatra said that mafias were smuggling cannabis in various ways and are hyperactive now during the Covid situation. But the police have also succeeded in apprehending the mafias.
The team has initiated a probe into the matter.
