Kendrapara, Jan 28: Gandhiji’s statue is lying broken at Pokshyot Elementary school in Kendrapara. Locals have smelt a foul play behind the incident, after discovering the status of the statue on Friday morning. Sources said a full-body statue of Mahatma Gandhi was established in the premises of Pokshyot Elementary school under the Marsaghai block limit. However, the statue of the father of the nation was neglected after the elementary school was merged with Madhusudan Boys’ High School for the last two years. At the same time, an Anganwadi had been functioning in the school building. Meanwhile, the statue installed before the school building was found hanging on the ground. Locals suspect that miscreants have broken the statue with evil intentions. Sighting the great man’s statue in such dilapidated conditions local elites have expressed discontent taking it a disregard to Mahatma Gandhi. They urged the school authorities to refurbish the statue as soon as possible. On the other hand, the Teacher–Parents’ Association has initiated an in-house investigation into the matter.
