From Union Minister to Nishad Raj: Jual Oram takes the Ramlila stage

New Delhi, Oct 15: Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram portrayed Nishad Raj, the tribal king and a close friend of Lord Shri Ram, at the renowned Luv Kush Ramlila held at Lal Qila Maidan near the Red Fort in Delhi on Wednesday.

Oram, 65, a six-time BJP MP from Odisha’s Sundargarh, enacted the role of Nishad Raj in a Ramayana-based play organised by the Luv Kush Ramlila Committee. The performance depicted a significant episode from Lord Ram’s exile, in which Nishadraj extends warm hospitality to him.

Sharing his experience on X, Oram said, “Last night, at the renowned Lav-Kush Ramlila stage in Lal Quila Maidan, Delhi, I had the good fortune not as a Union Minister, but of portraying the role of Lord Shri Ram's supreme friend and the King of Shringverpur, Nishad Raj. Jai Shri Ram.”

Oram said he readily accepted the committee’s invitation to portray the character, noting that his tribal background gave him a special connection with Nishad Raj. He described the opportunity to be part of the grand production as an honour.

“I sincerely thank all the office-bearers and members of the Luv Kush Ramlila Committee for giving me the opportunity to play the role of Nishad Raj, who was the king of the forest and a leader of tribal and backward communities,” he said.

Several prominent political figures, including Vijay Sampla, Faggan Singh Kulaste and former Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, have also played roles in Ramlila performances in the past.
