Bhubaneswar, Nov 25: SOA’s Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) has said that a fresh low-pressure area (LOPAR) is likely to take shape either on November 29 or 30 over South Andaman Sea and subsequently move in a west-north-westward direction. The system may move over west central Bay of Bengal and reach the south Odisha coast on December 3, Dr. S.C.Sahu, Director of CEC, said on Thursday. According to preliminary analysis, several coastal districts could experience moderate rainfall between December 3 and 5 under the influence of this system. As an upper air trough was also approaching interior Odisha from northwest India, the two systems might combine to cause increased rainfall, he said. The districts likely to receive rainfall are Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jajpur and Jagatsinghpur. Dr. Sahu said due to impact of cyclonic circulation over southwest Bay of Bengal and its movement towards the Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh coast, clouding might be observed over south Odisha districts and nearby districts in north Odisha from November 29 with light rainfall in the southern districts on that day. Prevailing cold conditions might continue up to November 29 after which night temperature might increase. In view of the rainfall forecast, farmers need to be advised to store the harvested paddy in safe places, he said.
