Sundargarh, May 18: As many as four wagons of a goods train derailed near the Bimalagarh railway station in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Sunday.
As per reports, the derailment occurred near the Dyam Basti area when the train numbered BOSM779, carrying iron ore, was en route from Roxy railway siding to Bimalagarh.
The circumstances under which the mishap occurred are yet to be determined.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported so far. However, railway officials confirmed that the wagons derailed just before reaching Bimalagarh station, which is close to a crowded area.
Following the mishap, the derailed wagons blocked significant portions of the track affecting rail movement on the route.
Upon getting the information, a team of railway personnel arrived at the scene and initiated restoration and recovery efforts.
Efforts are ongoing to remove the derailed wagons and get the trains running normally again. Technical teams have been sent to help with the operations.
The railway department has ordered an investigation to find out the cause of the derailment. While technical problems or track issues are suspected, a detailed inquiry will uncover the reasons behind the incident.
