Bijapur, July 26: Four Naxalites were gunned down during an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Saturday evening, police said.
The exchange of fire took place in a forested area in the south-western part of the district, where a joint team of security forces had launched an anti-Naxal operation based on intelligence inputs about Maoist movement, according to Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P.
Bodies of four Maoists have been recovered from the site, and intermittent gunfire continues as the operation is still in progress, the officer added.
