Four arrested in Koraput for impersonating police & extorting truck driver

Koraput, Aug 10: Koraput police have apprehended four individuals for allegedly posing as police officers and extorting money from the driver of a ginger-laden truck in Semiliguda.

The incident occurred at around near Semiliguda, under Pottangi police limits. The accused – identified as Mantu Puria, Bijay Takri, Subhakant Nayak, and Ram Kuldeep, all residents of Semiliguda – intercepted the truck while travelling in a car. Claiming to be police personnel, they allegedly held the driver at gunpoint and forced him to divert the vehicle to a secluded location.

According to police, the suspects assaulted the driver and looted ₹8,000 in cash before attempting to escape. A patrolling team from Pottangi police reached the spot, pursued the accused, and managed to overpower them.

Authorities seized a gun, six mobile phones, cash, and a car from their possession. All four were produced before a local court today, Pottangi IIC Pravat Behera confirmed.
