Bhubaneswar, June 20: Police have arrested four persons in connection with a burglary at a jewellery shop in Bhubaneswar’s Sahid Nagar area and recovered stolen gold and silver ornaments worth around ₹10 lakh.

The theft took place at Rashmi Jewellery in Sahid Nagar on Tuesday night. According to police, the accused broke open the shop’s lock and decamped with gold and silver ornaments as well as cash. A complaint was subsequently lodged at Sahid Nagar Police Station.

During the investigation, police examined CCTV footage from the area, which provided crucial leads and helped identify the suspects. Based on the evidence, Sahid Nagar Police arrested three accused — Alok Sahu, Akash Nayak, and Rakesh Swain. The stolen jewellery was also recovered from their possession.

Police later conducted a raid on a jewellery shop where a portion of the stolen ornaments had allegedly been sold. The shop owner was arrested on charges of aiding the crime and knowingly purchasing stolen property.

Investigators said the burglary was carried out in a planned manner between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. One accused reportedly kept watch near the IDBI Square area, another stood guard outside the shop, while the third broke open the lock and entered the premises. The miscreants had covered their faces with cloth to conceal their identities during the operation.

All four accused have been arrested and produced before a local court. Further investigation into the case is underway.
