Four arrested for trying to extort money from pvt company workers in Koraput

Kotpad, May 30: The Kotpad police arrested four people for allegedly demanding extortion money from workers of a private company and threatening to kill them at Kusumi village in Koraput, police said today. The accused have been identified as Karna Harijan (32), Ranjan Sagariya (26), Ramiya Harijan (22), and Senapati Barik (23). According to the police, the workers of GMC company were engaged in constructing pipelines for water supply in the village on Saturday when then four accused approached them and demanded an extortion money of Rs 50,000 failing to which, they threatened to kill the workers. However, the workers agreed to their terms but the next morning they lodged a complaint at Kotpad police station in this regard. Basing on the complaint, police traced the phone of one of the accused and subsequently nabbed other accused. Police have also seized a pistol from the accused. During the investigation, the accused confessed to the police of being involved in a robbery case in March where they looted a motorcycle, mobile phone and Rs 7500 from a man in Borigumma.
