Angul, August 15: In a significant crackdown on illegal arms possession, Palalahada Police on Thursday arrested four individuals and seized four country-made guns from different villages under Dimiria Panchayat in Angul district.
The arrests follow a targeted raid conducted earlier in the day by a special police team under the supervision of SDPO Kailash Chandra Sethy and led by Officer-in-Charge Pradeep Kumar Mahanta. Acting on a tip-off and under directives from the District Superintendent of Police, the team carried out simultaneous raids in Rengali, Solada, and Korada villages.
The accused have been identified as: Surendra Deogam (40) of Solada village, Golekha Boita (60) of Korada village, Sikuar Purti (40) of Rengali village, Rensa Hesa (27) of Rengali village.
All four were apprehended for illegal possession of country-made firearms. The seized weapons have been taken into custody, and the accused were later produced in court.
According to police sources, the area had been under watch following repeated allegations of illegal arms storage. In June, a similar operation had led to the seizure of three guns, arrest of three individuals, and the busting of an illegal gun-manufacturing unit in the Khamar area.
