Raigarh, Feb 14: Raigrah police in Chhattisgarh today solved the mystery behind murder of a 32-year-old woman and her 12 year-old-daughter in Chakradhar Nagar in 2016. Police said that the three time legislator of Odisha Anup Sai was the mastermind of the double murder. Sai was arrested by the Raigarh police on Thursday. SP of Raigarh, Santosh Singh said that the former legislator killed the mother-daughter duo as she insisted to marry her. Bodies of Kalpana Das and her daughter Babli were found in a forest in Raigarh district in May 2016. “The woman was a divorcee and later came in contact with Sai when he was a legislator. Subsequently they closed and started living together. Sai in 2011 constructed a three-storied building for the woman in Bhubaneswar and brought her there. Sai also identified both of them as his wife and daughter and admitted the girl in a school in Bhubaneswar,” said Singh. Police further said that the relationship took a bitter turn when Kalpana insisted to marry Sai and demanded a share in his property. “Sai vehemently rejected the idea of marrying her as he was earlier married. Sai also sensed trouble in his political career for which he hatched the plot to eliminate her,” added the SP. Accordingly, Sai took both of them in a Bolero vehicle to Raigarh on the promise of marrying her there. “In the midway, Sai along with his driver assaulted the woman and her daughter in an iron rod leading to their death. The driver of the former legislator ran over the body to conceal the identity of the victims,” said Singh. Police said that Sai initially denied his involvement in the crime but later confessed. “He will be forwarded to the court today. We will also bring him under remand for further investigation,” said Singh.
