Former Junior MVI Convicted in DA case; Sentenced to two years in jail

Berhampur, July 19: In a significant development, former Junior Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) Devi Prasad Padhi, who previously served at the Unified Check Gate and Girisola Check Gate, has been convicted in a disproportionate assets case. The Berhampur Vigilance Special Judge has sentenced him to two years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹50,000.
According to sources, Padhi was earlier found guilty in a trap case registered under Berhampur Vigilance PS Case No. 13/2010. The case was adjudicated by the Special Vigilance Court in Phulbani, which held him accountable for accepting illegal gratification during his tenure.
Following his conviction, the Odisha Vigilance Department submitted a detailed report to the competent authority recommending departmental action. Based on this report, Padhi, who was then serving as the in-charge RTO of Boudh was dismissed from government service.
The action reflects the state's ongoing commitment to tackling corruption and holding public officials accountable for misuse of power and accumulation of illicit wealth.
