Cuttack, Jul 31: The former Headmaster in-charge of Krupasindhu High School in Gopinathpur, Cuttack district Himansu Behera has been sentenced to jail after being convicted in a bribery case.
Behera was charged by Odisha Vigilance under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(d)/7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant. The bribe was taken in exchange for allowing the complainant to sign the attendance register and facilitating the submission of the salary bill to the treasury for disbursement.
Now retired, Behera was convicted by the Special Judge of the Vigilance Court in Cuttack and sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine.
In light of his conviction, Odisha Vigilance plans to approach the competent authority to request the suspension of Behera’s pension.
