Former Headmaster convicted in corruption case, sentenced to jail

Phulbani, Aug 16: Subash Chandra Nayak, former Head Master-cum-Secretary of Rangapaju Upper Primary School under Tumudibandha Block in Kandhamal district, has been convicted in a corruption case and sentenced to rigorous imprisonment by the Special Vigilance Judge, Phulbani.

The court found Nayak guilty under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(c)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 409 of the Indian Penal Code, for misappropriating government funds allocated for the construction of a classroom at Rangapaju UP School.

Following the verdict, Nayak was sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹50,000. He was immediately taken into custody and sent to jail to serve his sentence.

According to Odisha Vigilance, Nayak had absconded from his post after the crime came to light. He was charge-sheeted following an investigation that revealed significant financial irregularities during his tenure as Head Master-cum-Secretary.

Odisha Vigilance has announced its intention to move the competent authority for his dismissal from service in light of the conviction.
