Bhubaneswar: Tension prevailed in Nilgiri area in Balasore district as villagers attacked some forest officials and damaged their vehicles alleging that the latter have completely failed in driving away Jharkhandi elephants.
According to reports, a large herd of elephants coming from jungles of neighbouring Jharkhand have destroyed crops on hundreds acres of land at different places during the last four-five days.
However, forest officials have failed to drive away the pachyderms. Angry over this, villagers attacked some visiting forest officials and damaged their vehicles this morning.
