Flipkart fined Rs 1 lakh by Delhi HC for selling substandard pressure cookers

New Delhi, Sept 24: Delhi High Court has fined Rs 1 lakh as deposit penalty imposed by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) to the Registrar General of the Court within one week to e-commerce giant Flipkart. The court directed Flipkart to notify the pressure cooker buyers that the pressure cooker does not confirm to the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) standard. Justice Yashwant Varma has directed Flipkart to deposit the penalty of Rs 1 lakh with the general registrar subject to the outcome of the petition. The Consumer Protection Act, 2019 specify that goods or products which do not comply with standard which is required to be maintained by or under any law for the time being in force are liable to held defective. According to the Domestic Pressure Cooker (Quality Control) Order, 2020, which came into force on February 1, 2021, all pressure cookers are mandatory to follow the standard – IS 2347:2017 and use the standard mark for domestic pressure cooker.
