Five Odisha artists showcase contemporary masterworks at prestigious Mumbai national exhibition

Five Odia artists display unique creations in Mumbai.

Mumbai is hosting five brilliant visual creators from Odisha at the high-profile National Art Exhibition starting May 26, 2026. This dynamic showcase at the historic Nehru Art Centre brings coastal regional perspectives into the national spotlight, demonstrating the rising influence of Eastern Indian aesthetics in metropolitan cultural hubs.

Modern Visions in Stone and Canvas

Leading the contingent, Dr Panchanan Samal, Principal of Dhauli College of Art and Crafts, presents profound abstract paintings exploring modern themes. National award-winning sculptor Chandan Kumar Samal offers striking stone carvings centered around environmental conservation, while Narottam Das reimagines ancient mythological lore using innovative ceramic sculpture techniques.

Transforming Traditional Media

Pushing creative boundaries, Himanshu Mohanty meticulously carves enduring Odia literature motifs directly into heavy black granite. Alongside him, Sophia Yasmin breathes new life into discarded household furniture, upcycling waste into captivating contemporary installations. Their works share the floor with leading talents from New Delhi, Chandigarh, Kolkata, and Rajasthan, proving that regional roots can drive global contemporary conversations.
