Berhampur, August 25: Berhampur police have arrested five people, including a husband and wife, in connection with a major job fraud case involving an alleged scam of around Rs 1.5 crore.
The Baidyanathpur police arrested the accused after receiving allegations that the main accused, Jagadish Kumar Behera, along with his associates, had duped unemployed youths by promising them government jobs in various departments in exchange for large sums of money.
According to police, the accused allegedly collected the original educational certificates of several job aspirants and kept them in their possession. During raids, police seized fake appointment letters purportedly issued by various organisations, receipts related to financial transactions, and records of online money transfers.
All five accused have been arrested and produced before the court. Police are now investigating the case further to identify other people who may be involved in the alleged fraud network.
The investigation is also underway to determine the total number of victims and the exact amount of money allegedly collected by the accused.
