First Tricolour of Odisha was hoisted in Cuttack

Cuttack, Aug 15: For the first time the National Flag was hoisted in Cuttack on January 26, 1030 to observe Purna Swaraj Diwas. On December 31 in 1929, people gathered on the bank of Ravi river in Lahore. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was elected Congress president in the meeting. Leaders of the Indian National Congress took a pledge of Purna Swaraj or complete self-rule in the meeting. It was decided in the meeting that al Indians will celebrate Independence Day hoisting national flag on January 26, 1930. The Congress had announced the Tricolour as national flag. Britishers were not allowing Tricolour hoisting. The police had cornered the Swaraj Ashram. Meanwhile, Nabakrushna Choudhury hoisted the Tricolour at his residence Choudhury Niwas to observe Purna Swaraj Diwas. People rushed to Choudhury Niwas at Bakharabad to have a glimpse of the Tricolour and started singing patriotic songs where Gopabandhu Choudhury pledged people for Purna Swaraj.
