Bhubaneswar, Sept 28: First Chairperson of National Commission for Women(NCW) and former MP, Jayanti Patnaik passed away on Wednesday. She was 90. She breathed her last in a private hospital during treatment for her geriatric related ailments, said sources. Late Patnaik, wife of former Chief Minister, Janaki Ballav Patnaik was a senior Congress leader and former Member of Parliament from Cuttack and Berhampur. Hailing from Aska in Odisha's Ganjam district, late Patnaik was closely associated with social, cultural and literary works. She was the Editor of Paurusha,an ace Odia magazine, published from Bhubaneswar. She is survived by her son Pruthvi Ballav Patnaik and two daughters Sudatta and Supriya. Senior congress leaders and eminent personalities made a beeline to her residence in Bhubaneswar to see off the uncommon woman leader. Apart from it, a pall of gloom descended in Odisha Congress Party and in the capital city following the death of Patnaik.
