Mumbai, August 25: The upcoming Bollywood film “Param Sundari”, starring Janhvi Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra, has courted controversy ahead of its theatrical release. While the film’s music has garnered positive responses from audiences, a Christian organization has raised serious objections, alleging that the movie hurts religious sentiments.
The controversy centers around an intimate scene featured in one of the film's songs, reportedly set in a religious location. The scene has sparked outrage from a section of the Christian community, which deems it disrespectful and inappropriate.
The Mumbai-based group The Watchdog Foundation has formally lodged a complaint with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). In addition, letters have been sent to the Mumbai Police, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and the Maharashtra state government. The film’s director has also been directly addressed in the organization’s correspondence.
In its letter, the foundation has demanded the removal of the contentious scene, arguing that such portrayals are increasingly being used as a deliberate tactic to generate controversy and attract viewership. The organization has urged regulatory bodies to take strict action and called for an end to such practices in Indian cinema.
As the debate continues, all eyes are now on the CBFC and the film’s production team for their response.
