Kandhamal, June 9: In a heart-wrenching road accident, a man and his minor son lost their lives on Monday morning in Kandhamal district. The incident occurred near Galigaru turning under the Baliguda police station limits.
The deceased has been identified as Hema Kanhar, a resident of Sirshipanga village under Rutungia panchayat.
According to reports, Hema was returning home on a motorcycle with his young son after attending a feast in Raipanga village when a jackfruit-laden Bolero pickup van, travelling from Baliguda to Mohangiri, collided head-on with their bike.
The impact of the collision was fatal Hema Kanhar died on the spot, while his injured son was immediately rescued by locals and rushed to Baliguda hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was referred to Phulbani hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries despite medical efforts.
Following the accident, the pickup van driver fled the scene. However, Baliguda Police immediately responded to the alert, tracked down the vehicle, and seized it.
Police personnel also reached the accident site, recovered body, and sent it for post-mortem examination at Baliguda hospital. A case has been registered, and further investigation into the incident is underway.
