Angul, Sep 22: Farmers of Athmallik block in Angul gheraoed Bamur Forest Range office over compensation on Wednesday. They demanded immediate compensation for the crop loss due to elephants. At the same time, they sought employment of the local youths for elephant tracking and other assignments related to wildlife. Sources said,Elephants and wild boars are continuously destroying standing crops around Athmallik and Bamur forest range. However, the amount of compensation granted against the crop loss is too negligible.At the same time it takes years for sanction. Aggrieved over it, hundreds of farmers gheraoed Bamur Range office for long time. Later, after amicable discussion with the forest officials, a memorandum was submitted in this connection.
