Bhubaneswar, Dec 28: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today chaired a high-level meeting on crop loss assessment here and informed that the farmers affected by unseasonal rain will be identified by December 30 this year.
Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, and other concerned officials attended the review meeting.
The decision aims to speed up the process of providing compensation for crop loss due to unseasonal rain. Unseasonal rainfall across Odisha has severely impacted thousands of hectares of agricultural land, leaving farmers devastated.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, CM Majhi said that compensation would be provided to farmers, who lost their crops including paddy, vegetables and betel. He assured that all eligible farmers will be identified by December 30 and would receive compensation through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
CM Majhi urged the farmers to report their crop losses promptly. To facilitate this, the state government has launched the "Krushi Rakshak" application and set up a toll-free helpline number, 14447, for lodging complaints.
He urged the farmers to submit their grievances by tomorrow to ensure timely relief.
He further added that the unseasonal rainfall between December 20 and 28 caused significant damage to crops during the kharif harvest season. According to the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, approximately 1.26 lakh farmers have been affected so far.
