Dhenkanal, Feb 25: Famous Maghamela in Joronda’s Mahima shrine began today amid strict Covid-19 regulations. It will continue till February 27.
However, Dhenkanal district administration has asked the temple authorities to perform only rituals under Covid strictures.
Accordingly, a limited Mahima saints candled the inaugural sacred Jhadadeepa (the biggest light) in Mahima cult in the early morning today.
They have placed the Jhadadeep at the main gateway after surrounding the Sunya Mandir (empty temple) with a merry-go- round of Khanjani Bhajan and Mahima kirtan by two traditional groups of sadhus adorned with safron Bakals (bark of trees) and Koupins (a traditional attire of saints). Devotees and followers of Mahima religion are watching the sacred light from a distance outside the temple.
District administration and police have made elaborate arrangements to manage the mela smoothly amid corona guidelines.
On the other hand, a limited number of local traders along with some handicraft stalls have been allowed in the fair ground.
However, common visitors arenot allowed inside the temple premises this year due to the surge in corona cases.
