Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today directed the Election Commission of India to initiate action against Polasara MLA Srikant Sahu within three months for allegedly giving incorrect information regarding his educational qualification while filing his nomination papers.
The court ordered the ECI to initiate action against the MLA after a probe into the allegations.
Initially, a petition was filed at the ECI alleging that Sahu had claimed to have passed in Class X, while he had actually failed in the examination conducted by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE). But he mentioned in the affidavit submitted during the 2014 election that he had passed the matric examinations.
As no action was taken, a petition was filed in the High Court last year seeking action against the MLA.
Sahu of the BJD had won from the Polsara Assembly constituency by defeating Gokulananda Malik of the Congress by a margin of 21, 217 votes.
