Cuttack, Sept 21:Working out on the fake medicine row across the state, a team of police from Cuttack has left for other states on Wednesday. A four-member team of the Purighat police set out for West Bengal and Bangalore to ascertain the origin of the fake medicines peddled to Odisha. Sources said that a huge cache of fake medicines were seized from different stockists and druggists in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recently. As many as two owners of pharmaceutical companies were also held on the charges of dealing with fake medicines. Following this, the state drugs control authorities conducted a series of raids across the state to bust the illegal network of the fake medicines. In the meantime, a huge cache of Telma-40 was recovered from a bus which was allegedly imported to Cuttack from West Bengal. Acting on it, a team led by the Inspector In-Charge(IIC) of the Purighat police set out its journey to find out the interstate link of the fake medicine peddling racket. On the other hand a Public Interest Interest(PIL) has been filed in the Orissa High Court in this connection. A social worker, Abhishek Das has prayed the High Court to order CBI probe to unearth the modus operandi of the illegal medicine traders.
