New York, Oct 29: Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg on Thursday announced that his company will have a new name, Meta. The name change was announced at the Facebook Connect augmented and virtual reality conference. The new name reflects the company’s growing ambitions beyond social media. Zuckerberg downplayed that this rebranding, the first in Facebook's 17 years of existence, is to divert a barrage of bad PR. “Today we are seen as a social media company, but in our DNA we are a company that builds technology to connect people, and the metaverse is the next frontier just like social networking was when we got started,” Zuckerberg said. The name "Facebook" doesn't fully encompass everything the company does now, and is still closely linked to one product, he added.
