Baripada, Mar 5: Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada on Tuesday convicted Sarat Chandra Ray, EX- SI of Police (Retired) under Tiring PS in Mayurbhanj district for demanding and accepting bribe from a complainant.
Ray was earlier charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance while accepting a bribe amount of Rs 7,000 from a complainant.
For the offence, the Court sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 5 years and fine of Rs.5,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 5 months more.
The Court further sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years and fine of Rs.3,000/- and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 months more for the offence U/s 7 P.C. Act, 1988. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.
The convict Sarat Chandra Ray was sent today to jail custody to serve his sentence.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Ray (Retired) following his conviction.
