Puri, 20 Nov: A local outfit has opposed the proposal of renaming the Puri city on Saturday. According to sources, some organisations have proposed renaming Puri with a political will, without discussing it with the Puri locals. The outfit named as Nama Surakhya Kriyanisthan Committee has opposed the move and started a campaign to retain the name of Puri. It has decided to hold a public awareness rally in order to gather public opinion in the future. The rally which is proposed to be taken out from the Gundicha Temple to the Jagannath temple will make aware the denizens about the issue, said a member of the committee. Meanwhile, Minister for School and Mass Education, Samir Ranjan Das said, the government will soon take a right decision regarding this issue. However, there is no need to change the city’s name as the name Puri itself represents the sacred Jagannath Dham, Das added.
