Bhubaneswar, May 18: In a significant anti-corruption development, Odisha Vigilance has secured the conviction of Ms. Pravati Swain, former Revenue Inspector (RI) of Sadangi Circle under Gondia Tahasil, Dhenkanal, in a bribery case.
On 18 May 2026, the Hon’ble Special Judge, Vigilance, Dhenkanal, convicted Ms. Swain under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(d)/7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a complainant. The bribe was allegedly taken to submit an enquiry report for the issuance of a legal heir certificate in favor of the complainant’s deceased mother.
She has been sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for two years and a fine.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance will move the competent authority to initiate her dismissal from service.
This case highlights the state’s ongoing efforts to curb corruption and ensure accountability among public servants.
