Bhubaneswar: Former Rajya Sabha member Baishnab Parida passed away at a private hospital here this morning. He was 77.
Parida had been suffering from cancer for a few months now.
According to information, Parida was a writer and spearheading language movement to implement the Odisha Official Language Act for use of Odia in Government offices and private sectors. He was a good writer too.
Parida was a Rajya Sabha member, representing the BJD, for six years from 2010 to 2016. He had worked with many political parties like CPI, Congress, Samajwadi Party and BJD. He had begun his political carrier with a Communist movement organised in Jajpur. He had stayed in Moscow in Russia for some years during which he had worked a lot for promotion of Odia.
Many noted persons, including CPI senior leader Janardan Pati, have mourned his death.
