Bhubaneswar: Justice Raghubir Dash, former judge of Orissa High Court, has been appointed as a member of the Odisha Human Rights Commission.
A notification to this effect was issued by the Law Department after Governor Ganeshi Lal approved the recommendation of the Government.
The OHRC Chairperson post has been lying vacant after the completion of tenure of Justice Bira Kishore Mishra on August 15. He was working as the acting Chairperson. At present, the three-member panel has no member.
On Wednesday, the selection committee led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik recommended Justice Das’s name for the crucial post. Odisha Assembly Speaker Pradip Amat, Opposition leader Narasingha Mishra and Chief Secretary AP Padhi were also present during the meeting.
The OHRC was established as per Section 21 of the Human Rights Protection Act, 1993 for protection and promotion of human rights of common man in the State.
