EOW arrests woman agent of real estate firm for cheating Rs 25.5 lakh

Cuttack, Feb 19: The Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of state Crime Branch today arrested an woman agent of a real estate for allegedly cheating Rs 25.5 lakh from two customers on the pretext of providing flats. The EOW today arrested Geetanjali Acharya, an agent of Raghupatee Estate and holding Pvt Ltd for the fraud. Earlier the EOW had also arrested Prabhat Kumar Nanda, the managing director of the real estate firm for the fraud. Police said that the case against Nanda was registered in February 2019. “Nanda had taken Rs 25.5 lakh from Debajyoti Dutta and Mamata Barik promising them flats in a housing project at Bhanpur in Cuttack in 2011. However, he neither provide them flats nor returned their money,” said an EOW official. Police said that Acharya had received the major portion of money and issued receipts to the duped customers.
