Cuttack, July 4: The Athgarh forest officials have arrested a wild life poacher in Cuttack district’s Tulasipur area on Monday.
The poacher has been identified as Dharmaraj Nayak a resident of Cuttack’s Jemadeipur village.
As per reports, an independent squad had launched a search operation to nab Nayak. Nayak was traced out in the Cuttack city after the search team tracked his cell phone location. The accused was then arrested by the forest team and forwarded to court for hearing.
The Athgarh Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Sudarshan Gopinath Yadav has said that Nayak was involved in poaching of several elephants and ther wild animals.
Yadav further stated that Nayak was also involved in killing of the elephant, whose skeleton was found in the Badamba forest on June 14.
A total of four elephant skeletons have been recovered from the Badamba forest division since June 2. The forest department has arrested as many as 13 suspects including poachers and officials in these cases.
