Elephant herd wreaks havoc in Mayurbhanj, one killed

Mayurbhanj, May 17: At least one person was killed after a herd of elephants wreaked havoc in Kathasirsi village under Deuli range in the Mayurbhanj district. As per reports, the pachyderms barged into the village and ransacked 10 thatched houses. As a result of which the person was killed after the wall of the house collapsed on him. Besides, the jumbos also destroyed standing crops in the village. Thereafter, the locals spotted elephants damaging houses in the village and immediately informed the forest department. Forest officials reached the spot and launch an operation to drive away the elephants to a safer place. Local villagers are spending sleepless nights in fear of being attacked by the jumbos.
